We Are Main Street: Celebrating 25 Years of Downtown Revitalization

Last Updated 5/27/2025

June 2025 marks a milestone for communities across Oakland County — the 25th anniversary of Main Street Oakland County (MSOC)! Downtown Ortonville is proud to be part of this transformative program that has championed vibrant, thriving downtowns for a quarter century. As we reflect on how MSOC has helped Ortonville grow and flourish, we also celebrate the shared progress of dozens of communities committed to revitalization and preservation.

Why Main Street Matters to Ortonville

Being a designated Main Street Oakland County community means so much more than a title — it's a commitment to preserving our history, fostering small business growth, and creating a welcoming, walkable downtown that brings people together. MSOC empowers us with guidance, training, resources, and funding opportunities that have directly impacted our local economy and small business vitality.

Thanks to this partnership, Ortonville has hosted engaging events, supported new and existing businesses, beautified public spaces, and built a sense of local pride that defines who we are. MSOC allows us to grow while maintaining our authenticity — every mural, market, or parklet carries the spirit of Main Street.

A Legacy of Impact: 25 Years by the Numbers

Over the past 25 years, Main Street Oakland County’s cumulative impact has been extraordinary:

  • $108.5 million in public investment and $349.6 million in private investment in participating downtowns
  • 1,729 net new businesses
  • 8,188 net new jobs
  • 2,267 building improvements
  • More than 402,000 volunteer hours contributed by community members

This data, drawn from MSOC statistics between 2021 and 2024, shows how strategic planning, community engagement, and economic development can come together to transform our downtowns into resilient, people-centered places.

A Continued Commitment to Community

From historic preservation to business innovation, MSOC continues to inspire communities like Ortonville to grow thoughtfully and collaboratively. By investing in placemaking, entrepreneurship, and heritage, we’re building a downtown that future generations can enjoy and be proud of.

Let’s celebrate the past 25 years of passion and progress — and look ahead to an even more vibrant future.
