Old Mill Sidewalk Realignment - Construction Plans & Traffic Controls
What to Expect During Construction
Downtown Ortonville Sidewalk Improvement Project – Mill Street at the Old Mill Museum
Making Downtown Ortonville Safer, More Accessible, and More Connected!
The Ortonville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is preparing for sidewalk improvements along Mill Street near the historic Old Mill Museum. This important project will eliminate an existing sidewalk pinch point, improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, and create a more welcoming connection between our downtown district and surrounding neighborhoods.
As construction gets underway, residents, businesses, and visitors can expect temporary changes to pedestrian access and traffic conditions. While some short-term inconveniences are anticipated, measures are planned to help maintain safe access through the area.
What to Expect During Construction
đźš— Vehicle Traffic
Mill Street will remain open to two-way traffic during working hours, with traffic alternating through the construction area.
- One-lane traffic will be regulated using a traffic control signaler/flagger
Temporary traffic control signs, barricades, and safety devices will guide motorists through the construction area.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and watch for construction workers and pedestrians.
Minor traffic delays may occur.
🚶 Pedestrian Access
The sidewalk within the active construction area will be temporarily closed.
Pedestrian closure signs and barricades will identify restricted areas.
Pedestrians should follow posted signage and use alternate walking routes where available.
Visitors to the Old Mill Museum and nearby downtown destinations should use extra caution when navigating the area.
🚧 Construction Zone Safety
Temporary barricades, high-visibility traffic control devices, and protective fencing will help separate construction activities from vehicles and pedestrians.
- One-lane traffic will be regulated using a traffic control signaler/flagger
- Traffic control measures may be adjusted as work progresses.
Please respect posted signs and avoid entering restricted construction areas.
A Short-Term Inconvenience for a Long-Term Improvement
This project is part of the DDA's ongoing commitment to creating a more inviting, walkable downtown that encourages people to stay longer, visit more often, and explore our local businesses.
Once completed, the improvements will provide a safer, more accessible pedestrian connection along one of downtown's important historic corridors, supporting our vision for a vibrant, connected, and welcoming Downtown Ortonville.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue making improvements to our downtown!
