Get Ready for JB's First Annual Smokin' Hot Chicken & Rib Competition!
Calling all BBQ lovers! JB's BBQ is bringing the heat to Ortonville with the First Annual Smokin' Hot Chicken & Rib Competition on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 465 South St., Ortonville, MI. Whether you’re a pitmaster ready to showcase your skills or a hungry spectator eager to indulge in mouthwatering BBQ, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
The Competition
Competitors will battle it out for bragging rights and cash prizes in two mouthwatering categories: Ribs and Chicken Wings. With an entry fee of $100, teams will compete for payouts based on turnout, with 24 teams expected to win big!
Payout Breakdown:
Ribs (60% payout)
🥇 1st Place - $750
🥈 2nd Place - $450
🥉 3rd Place - $300
Chicken (40% payout)
🥇 1st Place - $500
🥈 2nd Place - $300
🥉 3rd Place - $200
Rules & Regulations
Open to all types of cookers! Bring your best BBQ setup, but remember, no electrical access is provided. A quiet generator is required if needed.
Meat must be “NAKED” upon arrival. Trimming is allowed, but no seasoning, brining, or marinating prior to meat inspection.
Ribs: Only spare ribs or baby back pork ribs are allowed. Each turn-in box must contain at least six individual ribs, each with one bone.
Chicken Wings: Only flats and/or drummies are allowed, with a minimum of six pieces per turn-in.
Garnish is optional—dress up your plate or keep it simple!
Competition Schedule
📍 7:00 AM – Check-in Begins
📍 9:30 AM – MANDATORY Cooks’ Meeting
📍 2:30 PM – Chicken Wings Turn-in
📍 3:00 PM – Ribs Turn-in
📍 4:30 PM (ish) – AWARDS! 🏆
Spectators Welcome!
Even if you’re not competing, come on out and enjoy the action! JB’s BBQ will be serving up delicious barbecue all day while you watch the best pitmasters go head-to-head. Plus, you can help decide the winners—judges will include a mix of BBQ lovers and certified KCBS judges.
