Main Street in Bloom: Reimagining Downtown with a New Pocket Park

A Vision Rooted in Community

At the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority, our mission is simple: to work hand-in-hand with our community to create a vibrant, welcoming downtown that reflects the values, needs, and charm of our village.

Through preservation, collaboration, and placemaking, we’re not just maintaining what makes Ortonville special — we’re building on it. And this summer, we’re excited to announce our next step in that journey: the creation of a pocket park in the heart of downtown.

What is the Pocket Park Initiative?

In response to ongoing community input and the increasing desire for more green, public gathering spaces, the Ortonville DDA — in partnership with the Village — is launching a new placemaking project: a pocket park located between the historic Old Town Hall and the Village Office.

This underutilized space, just steps from our downtown shops and businesses, will be transformed into a small, beautifully designed green space. While compact in size, this pocket park will offer a big impact — giving residents and visitors a place to relax, reflect, and reconnect.

Why It Matters: Placemaking & Green Space

This project is part of our broader placemaking transformation strategy, which focuses on reimagining public spaces and adding more accessible green areas to enhance quality of life downtown.

Our goals:

  • Create inviting, people-centered spaces
  • Encourage community interaction and connection
  • Preserve our historic identity while adding beauty and function
  • Make downtown more walkable, social, and welcoming to all ages

The new pocket park will feature thoughtful landscaping, seating, and pathways — all designed to create a peaceful yet active space for daily use and special events alike.

Timeline: Progress Underway and More to Come!

Construction for Ortonville’s new pocket park is officially underway — and the transformation has already begun!

The once-underutilized space between the Old Town Hall and the Village Office now features a newly installed paved walkway, landscaping, seating, and thoughtful design elements, offering a beautiful and accessible connection right in the heart of downtown. This pathway marks the first major step in turning this area into a welcoming green space for everyone to enjoy.

Stay tuned for more updates and sneak peeks as we bring this beautiful new space to life — together.
